Coming into Thursday’s home finale at Merritt College, Soul had dominated the all-time series versus The Olympic Club, holding a perfect 5-0-0 record against them and holding a +20 goal differential. Thursday was more of the same for Soul, who played a near perfect first half en route to a 7-2 victory over The Olympic Club.
Soul controlled the match from the outset, opening the scoring just six minutes after the first whistle when Keely Roy played a cross into The Olympic Club penalty area, finding Sydney Middaugh who laid the ball off to the top of the box where a wide open Joelle Jung had plenty of time to calculate her shot and find twine.
It didn’t take long for Oakland to double their lead. In the 9th minute Soul star Shae Murison earned her team-leading 11th goal of the season from in close thanks to a perfect cross in front of the net from Allie Montoya.
Oakland found their third of the match in the 17th minute when a Soul cross into the box found Murison taking a touch to lay it off to Roy who buried it for a goal of her own to make it 3-0.
The hits just kept coming for Oakland who scored once again just five minutes later in the 22nd when The Olympic Club tried to clear it off their back line, accidentally found Soul’s Emilia Ericksen in the top left corner of the box instead. Eriksen saw the keeper off her line and put a shot off her fingertips and into the back of the net making it 4-0 Oakland.
For Soul’s fifth and final goal of the first half, playing in space at midfield Keely Roy slotted a pass to Allie Montoya who was left alone up the right wing. Montoya closed with speed on goal and finally took a strike near the top of the box that beat the keeper into the top left corner to give her side a 5-0 first half lead.
Coming into the second half with a five goal advantage, Soul began the second frame playing a more defensive-minded brand of soccer, falling back into their own defensive third and playing keepaway as best they could.
The Olympic Club took advantage of this break in attacking aggression and scored their first of the match in the 51st minute when Raniyah Burton received a perfect through ball that left her behind the defense with pace. Burton made no mistake with the finish all alone with The Olympic Club’s first shot on target of the match to make it 5-1.
Despite not looking quite as dominant as they did in the first half, Soul still worked hard enough to find the back of the net next. In the 65th minute Montoya earned her brace on the night when she took a strike from well outside the penalty area, beating the out of position Olympic Club netminder to bring the score to 6-1.
The Olympic Club struck again in the 76th minute for their first ever two-goal game versus Soul when Lexi Randolph struck a perfect ball from distance that rang the crossbar before finding the back of the net to make it 6-2 Soul.
As if six weren’t enough, Soul scored once more before the final whistle when in the 82nd minute Tatiana Cunnigham showed her elite handles, weaving it through the Olympic Club defense into the box before finding a passing lane to Shae Murison who fired a close range rocket into the back of the net for a brace of her own and make it 7-2 just before time expired.
Soul finishes 2025 continuing their historic streak of earning a result in every home game they have ever played at Merritt College. Oakland will now look to this weekend as they are set to finish the 2025 USL W League campaign on the road for a contest with SF Glens on Sunday, June 29th at 2 PM PT.
