Soul Dominates 5-0 in Mothers Day Matchup at Home Versus Academica SC
It was the Shae Murison show on Mothers day at Merritt College in Oakland as Soul defeated Academica SC 5-0 on Sunday afternoon May 11th behind Murison’s four goals.
Oakland dominated the match from start to finish. Murison got Soul on the board early when Giana Riley found space to run up the right side before placing a perfect cross at the feet of Murison who deposited the ball into the twine to give her side a 1-0 lead.
The match settled a bit on the scoreboard, but Soul continued to suffocate and attack Academica, putting nine shots on goal in the first half alone.
Academica only traveled with 11 players, and not being able to substitute players meant that Soul’s ability to bring in fresh legs in the second half would mean even further domination on the pitch.
In the 51st minute of the contest, Murison scored her second when she struck a low ball past the wall on a free kick and beat the Academica keeper to the right side just inside the post.
Just four minutes later in the 55th minute Murison earned her hat trick after once again receiving an assist from Riley.
Soul’s Sydney Middaugh contributed to the second half scoring parade in the 75th minute, but Murison still had a hand in the score, earning the assist on the goal to make it 4-0.
To add the icing on the cake, Murison scored her fourth goal of the match, tying the franchise record for most goals in a game set by Jordan Geis during the 2024 season. Murison lined up once again on a free kick from almost the same exact spot as her second goal, this time sending a strike towards the top right corner of goal and beating the keeper to bring it to 5-0.
Soul will have a long break before their next action on May 27th when they head to San Francisco to face the Olympic Club at Negoesco Stadium. That match is scheduled for 6:30 PM PT.
