Soul Draw Stockton Cargo 1-1 at Merritt College in Penultimate Home Game of 2026
With the 2026 USL W League season winding down, Soul played to a 1-1 draw with visiting Stockton Cargo SC at Merritt College on Sunday afternoon.
The draw keeps Soul’s playoff hopes alive, albeit only slightly and with destiny no longer in their own hands, needing help from opponents of Monterey Bay and to win their remaining matches to have a shot.
Stockton looked like the more organized side early in the match, playing disciplined soccer and limiting Soul’s opportunities to move the ball up the pitch.
Soul eventually worked to level momentum in the game, but it was Cargo that would strike first in the contest when in the 63rd minute, Stockton’s Hannah Diaz received a great lob pass up the middle that left her alone behind the backline with space to run. After dribbling into some trouble in the Oakland box, she made up for it with a well placed final touch that put her side up 1-0.
Oakland, however, immediately began to fight their way back into the match, tilting the pitch in their favor for the rest of the game, and finding an equalizer ten minutes later in the 73rd when a shot from Shae Murison deflected high off the keeper, with Murison corralling her own rebound on the goal line with a light touch to tap it in and make it 1-1.
The match continued to favor an Oakland game winner, but despite heavy pressure from Soul for the remainder of the contest, they could not find one before the final whistle.
Soul will now head out on the road one final time in 2026 to face Marin FC Siren on June 17th before returning home for the season finale on June 21st versus Monterey Bay Sirens at 3 PM PT.
