Soul Defeat Pleasanton Rage 2-1 at Home on Pride Day
Soul got back to their winning ways at home on Sunday June 7th at Merritt College in Oakland, defeating visiting Pleasanton Rage by a final score of 2-1 amid Pride Day celebrations.
Oakland were on the front foot for much of the opening phase of play, earning dangerous scoring opportunities one after another, but being stifled early on by a stubborn Rage defense.
Soul finally found a break in the 33rd minute of the match when a foul inside the Pleasanton box earned Oakland a penalty kick. Samantha Tran lined up at the spot and converted the try into the lower right corner despite the keeper guessing correctly, putting Oakland up 1-0.
Pleasanton leveled the match in the 70th minute when a corner kick from the right side was placed by Marta Pelegrin to just in front of the right post where Ava Steven was waiting, finishing a tough angle volley into the twine to make it 1-1.
But wasting no time at all, Soul regained the lead just seconds after the restart when in the 71st minute Venina Moodie placed an inch-perfect lob from near the midline to a sprinting Elizabeth Vranesh who tapped it home on the right side after letting the ball take a single bounce to bring the score to 2-1 Oakland.
Soul continued to look dangerous, searching for a cushion goal for the remainder of the match, but reaching the final whistle still up by one.
Oakland will now head to Davis for a meeting with California Storm in their next match on June 12th at 6:30 PM PT.
