Soul opened their 2026 USL W League season with a Mother’s Day victory on Sunday, May 10th at Merritt College in Oakland, defeating visiting Marin FC Sirens by a final score of 6-1.
After the initial whistle, it didn’t take long for Oakland to open the scoring.
In just the 5th minute of the match, Soul’s Sierra Castles played an excellent through ball towards the box from just inside the center line to find a sprinting Shaelan Murison. Murison worked in behind the last defender before placing a shot inside the left post to extend her record as the club’s all-time leading scorer and make it 1-0 Oakland early.
Soul doubled their lead just minutes later in the 8th when a great run up the left wing from Sydney Middaugh led to a low cross to the top right corner of the box where Jadyn Rodenberger was waiting to put a strike on the ball. Rosenberger’s shot took a deflection off the keeper before finding twine to make it 2-0 in the early stages of play.
In the 23rd minute, Soul extended their lead to 3-0 when an off-target shot took a lucky deflection off of Sirens’ Janae Schwan and into her own goal.
Marin were able to erase the mistake moments later in the 25th minute when a good long ball down the middle found Sirens’ Tatum D’Angelica in stride behind the defense with plenty of time to measure her shot and score to make it 3-1.
Soul got back to attacking before the half ended however. In the 36th minute Venina Moodie worked up the left wing before putting a through ball into the box, finding Sydney Middaugh who took a great touch to beat a defender before firing one into the left side to bring the score to 4-1 Soul.
Murison scored her second of the match in the 63rd minute after hitting a one touch strike off a cross from Sam Tran to make it 5-1, and Middaugh bagged a brace of her own in the 73rd to close out the scoring after receiving a short corner and taking matters into her own hands, dribbling in through the Sirens defense before putting a left-footed strike inside the right post to make it 6-1 Oakland.
Soul will have some time to rest before their next match, as the club now looks forward to an away fixture versus San Juan FC at Folsom Lake College on May 21st at 7 PM PT.
