Oakland looked like the better side for much of the contest, but in the end, neither side were able to find the back of the net on Thursday evening at Merritt College, as Soul played to a 0-0 draw versus Pleasanton Rage.
The match began fairly evenly for both sides, as much of the game was played in the center third of the field through the first 15 minutes of play.
As the match progressed, Soul began to settle in, and started earning the lion’s share of scoring opportunities.
Against the run of play, however, it was Rage who found the best scoring opportunity of the match when the referee awarded Pleasanton a penalty kick in the 38th minute for a hand ball inside the Oakland area.
Rage’s Trinidad Quiroz lined up at the dot for the try, and put a shot towards the lower left of goal. But Soul keeper Dina Frankel rose to the occasion, diving to her right to make the low save and keeping her position to fend off the rebound opportunity the Quiroz put just wide left of the post to keep the match level.
Soul began pushing for a goal even harder in the second half, as the club leader in goals Shae Murison checked in at half-time and immediately made a difference on the offensive front.
Despite the late push, Soul couldn’t find a game winner before the final whistle, earning a draw and a single point in the USL W League table.
Soul will now head back out on the road to Davis, California for their next contest versus Cal Storm on Sunday, June 1st at 6 PM PT.
