The Oakland City Council and Alameda County Board of Supervisors authorized city and county staff to enter into an Exclusive Negotiation Agreement, with the goal of negotiating a 10 year lease, under which the Oakland Roots and Soul SC would build and operate an Interim Stadium at the Malibu Lot.
“We could not be more excited to be one step closer to having a dedicated soccer home in Oakland,” said Oakland Roots and Soul SC President Lindsay Barenz. “We want to thank the City Council and County Board of Supervisors and the city and county staff for all their hard work and support for our efforts.”
The target opening of the Malibu Lot Stadium is for the 2025 USL Championship season for Oakland Roots SC. The Stadium will put the Club on the path to financial sustainability in Oakland, expand access to Oakland Roots and Soul games while keeping ticket prices family friendly, and allow the Women’s team Oakland Soul to move into the USL Super League in 2025, a new Professional Women’s League.
