The match between Oakland Soul and Olympic Club started with a quick goal by Oakland Soul as Kaytlin Brinkman provided a cross to Miranda Nild for an easy tap-in, giving the visitors a 1-0 lead within the first two minutes of the game. Oakland Soul extended their lead to 2-0 in the 13th minute with a goal from Nayeli Diaz.
However, Olympic Club managed to pull one goal back in the 24th minute, narrowing the deficit to 2-1. Oakland Soul quickly responded with three goals in a span of four minutes. Lizzie Vranesh, Miranda Nild, and Sam Tran all found the back of the net, giving Oakland Soul a commanding 5-1 lead within the first half-hour of the match.
At the start of the second half, Oakland Soul made two changes, bringing on Henar Urteaga and Zoe Franks. The balance of the game shifted in the second half, with Soul losing some of the momentum they had in the first half. Just before the 70th minute, Oakland Soul’s goalkeeper, Layla Armas, made a crucial one-on-one save to maintain Oakland’s control of the match.
As the game progressed, Oakland Soul made two more substitutions, introducing Ella and Mia Colombini into the lineup. Oakland made their final two subs, one being Bella Flocchini, who scored in the 90th to seal the game at 6-1 in favor of Soul.
Oakland now heads on the road to face the Marin Sirens on June 25th. Soul will return home to face the division leading SF Glens at Merritt College on July 2nd at 2:00 PM PT for the final regular season game of the 2023 season.
