Soul Fall 0-1 to Monterey Bay Sirens in 2026 Season Finale at Home
While Soul heavily outshot division leaders Monterey Bay in their 2026 season finale at Merritt College on a sunny Father’s Day afternoon, Oakland could not overcome Sirens’ lone goal to keep their playoff hopes alive, eventually falling 0-1 to end their season on Sunday.
The match lived up to the hype of two of the best teams in the NorCal division facing off in a pivotal late-season fixture, as both sides clearly understood the stakes as shown in their intensity on the pitch from the very first whistle.
Soul nearly opened the scoring on multiple occasions in the first half, just missing on a number of finishes, and ending the frame up nine to three in total shots.
But despite Soul building momentum as the match went on, it was Monterey Bay who would open the scoring in the 62nd minute when a well timed through ball up the middle found the speedy Jessica Halladay at full pace, poking one home to the right side on a sliding shot attempt from near the penalty spot to beat the charging Soul keeper.
With even a draw not being enough to keep the playoff door open for Oakland, the remainder of the match turned into an all-out offensive desperation push for Soul, who stacked up nine more shots in the second half to end the match with an 18 to eight advantage in the shot category.
While opportunities were created in droves, however, Oakland could not find the back of the net before the final whistle blew, ending their season with an 0-1 loss.
Despite the final result, it was another successful season for Soul, who could still end up with a second-place finish in the division, and can fall no further than third after earning a 5-2-3 (W-D-L) record in 2026.
